The Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) course is designed to train law enforcement officers to observe, identify, and articulate the signs of impairment related to drugs, alcohol, or a combination of both. The course aims to reduce the number of impaired driving incidents, serious injuries, and fatal crashes. It also trains other criminal justice professionals, such as prosecutors and toxicologists, to understand the signs of impairment and effectively work with law enforcement to support enforcement efforts. The importance of this class lies in its comprehensive approach to addressing impaired driving. It bridges the gap between Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) and the Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) program, providing officers with the knowledge and skills to recognize drug impairment in drivers. This training enhances the ability of law enforcement to make informed decisions during traffic stops, leading to more accurate identification of impaired drivers and ultimately contributing to safer roadways.
